1. MBA Volunteers is GradGov-recognized
As of 10/20, the GradGov Senate has voted to recognize the MBA Volunteers club. This is significant because we will be able to involve all graduate students university-wide in our volunteer activities through the Georgetown CampusGroups, participate in university-wide events organized by GradGov, and receive funds from GradGov every semester to conduct volunteer events.
In light of this, we will need to update our Constitution to incorporate the changes needed to include non-MSB graduate students in the membership base. More information will be provided in due course.
2. Fall 2023 Volunteers Survey Findings
Thank you to everyone who participated in our survey! We have compiled the survey results alongside the Spring 2023 findings in our report here.
We have also included in the report the details on the number volunteer hours you should have done if you are aiming for an MBA Community Fellow award, and how to get there.
3. 2024 MBA Volunteers Board Elections
Time flies and the elections for the 2024 Board of the MBA Volunteers will begin soon! Here are the relevant dates:
- Co-Presidents Elections: Letters of intent (LOIs) will be accepted from Mon 11/6 to Sun 11/12. Please reach out to the Co-Presidents Isaac and Ryan if you are interested, or to find out more about the leadership of the MBA Volunteers.
- Board VP Elections: LOIs will be accepted from Mon 11/27 to Sun 12/3. Please reach out to the current VPs for more information on the available roles. You may also check in with Isaac and Ryan on the roles.
4. Month of Volunteerism
Every November, Georgetown MBAs celebrate the Month of Volunteerism (MOV) with a friendly inter-cohort competition to accumulate service hours. Organized by the SGA VPs of Community, the cohort that has the most hours receives a prize.
More details will be provided in due course. In the meantime, we have set-up a webpage which we will keep up-to-date with the latest service opportunities available during the MOV.
5. Gifts for the Season
In celebration of Thanksgiving and the Month of Volunteerism, five clubs have come together to organize the inaugural Gifts for the Season drive to collect donated items that will be given to the needy in the DMV area. The MBA Volunteers will be collecting:
- Toys to be donated to Toys for Tots, co-hosted with the Graduate Marketing Association
- Warm clothing (socks/gloves/hats) to be donated to The Salvation Army, co-hosted with the Black MBA Association and Out@MSB
- Professional clothing to be donated to A Wider Circle, co-hosted with the Business and Government Alliance
- Canned food to be donated to Capital Area Food Bank, co-hosted with the Georgetown Korea Association
Donation boxes will be placed in the foyer between Connelly Commons and the MBA Program Office. Your gifts will go a long way to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in the communities around us!
Credit: Special thanks to Rajiv Mehta (MBA FT'24) for designing the Gifts for the Season logo.
6. Volunteering Calendar
Remember to add our volunteering calendar to your Google Calendar so you can have a preview of every upcoming service opportunity, even if it isn't on HoyaConnect / CampusGroups yet. You can also turn on alerts to be notified of any changes we make to this calendar.
