Volunteer Opportunity: Dining Room Service at SOME's Father John Adams Resource Center
About the Opportunity: SOME's Dining Room serves over 1,000 nourishing breakfasts and lunches every day to those experiencing homelessness and poverty, with support from nearly 10,000 volunteers annually, including our Provide-A-Meal groups.
Volunteer Tasks:
- Food Prep
- Assist with plating and passing out meals
- Refill drinks and help with dishwashing
- Clean up and reset the dining room
Requirements:
- Volunteers must be 13+ years or older to volunteer. Any volunteer 13 - 15 years old must have a guardian signed up to accompany them.
- Up to twelve (12) volunteers are needed per shift
- Volunteers must stay until 1:30 pm to help with cleaning after the last plate is served at 1pm
- All volunteers must create an account in SOME's Volunteer Portal, including those in group reservations
- Sign-in required at 71 O Street NW to receive hours and avoid being marked absent
Additional Information:
- Parking & Metro Access: Free all-day parking on O Street between 1st and 3rd Street. Closest Metro station: NoMa/Gallaudet (Red Line), approximately 0.5 miles from SOME.
- Dress Code: Volunteers must wear flat, closed-toed shoes. Avoid tank tops, sleeveless shirts, crop tops, revealing or tight-fitting clothing, and short-shorts. Hairnets/hats, aprons, and gloves (provided by SOME) are required for food handlers.
- Food Handling: Disposable gloves are required, and SOME provides them. Food handlers cannot wear fingernails extending more than one inch beyond their fingertip and must remove jewelry unless necessary for special circumstances.
