A guide for Georgetown MBAs recruiting for summer 2027 venture capital internships.

 

How VC Recruiting Works

It looks different from banking and consulting recruiting.

Mostly Unstructured

Few VC firms recruit on campus. Most roles come from networking and warm introductions, and firms hire when they have a need rather than on a set calendar.

Later in the Year

Most summer VC roles come together in the spring semester, with activity picking up around March, so many students keep a structured-industry option in play.

In-Semester Work Opens Doors

Part-time school-year internships and fellowships, often unpaid, are common entry points and can lead to summer roles.

Your 2026–27 Timeline

  • September–October 2026: Pick one or two sectors to focus on, build a target list of firms, and start coffee chats with second-years who interned in VC and with alumni. Come to EVC's Fall Seminar Series. Catch the Venture in the Capital preview on Sept 29 and the VC 101 Workshop on Oct 23.
  • November 2026: Venture Fellows applications close this month. Prepare at the Venture Fellows Prep Workshop on Nov 12, and check eligibility early: international students need a full academic year completed before the fellowship starts. Compete in VCIC on Nov 6. If you're building a company, MBA Startup Fellows applications open in November–December.
  • December 2026: Keep up coffee chats over break, and sharpen your target list and investment memos for spring recruiting.
  • January 2027: Venture Fellows interviews and offers, and fellowships begin. The Venture in the Capital Summit is Jan 28–29.
  • February–May 2027: Fellows work 10–15 hours a week at their firms. Most summer VC roles come together through networking this semester, with activity picking up around March. VCIC regional rounds lead up to Global Finals in April.
  • June–August 2027: Summer internships. Venture Fellows join their firms full-time.

Venture Capital Investment Competition

Georgetown round Fri, Nov 6, 2–5 pm · Global Finals April 2027
Act as a VC for a day with real startups. Georgetown's winning team advances to the regional rounds. Learn more

How to Stand Out

  • Pick one or two sectors and develop a point of view on where they're headed.
  • Write a short investment memo on one or two startups you'd back, and bring it to coffee chats and interviews.
  • Keep a target list of firms and prioritize warm introductions through alumni, second-years, and professors.
  • Get close to startups through Georgetown Startup Interns, MBA Startup Fellows, or Bark Tank.
  • Practice being a VC for a day through VCIC and the VC 101 Workshop.
